Description
Holography is a technique of recording a three dimensional image of an object with the help of laser beams, lens and mirrors on a high resolution photographic plate. The photographic record of the image of object is called hologram. It appears as a pattern of strips and whorls in ordinary light but when viewed in laser light with which it has been recorded, it produces a three dimensional image of object.
For Holographic recording a visible he-ne laser is used. Laser beam is split by a beam splitter; part of beam lights up object and the scattered light from object hits the photographic plate. The other part of the beam is called reference beam is reflected by mirror on to the photographic plate. The two beams interfere with each other and a complex interference pattern is recorded on the photographic plate, the plate is developed and fixed. This is called hologram. When the plate Is viewed with laser light having the same wavelength with which it was recorded, it produces a three dimensional image of the object.
